If you’ve ever been to a gym, chances are you’ve encountered some annoying behavior from fellow gym-goers. From grunting loudly while lifting weights to hogging equipment, there are plenty of things that can get on the nerves of gym staff and other patrons. Here are 10 annoying things people do in the gym that you definitely don’t want to be guilty of.
1. The Mirror Hogger
We get it, you want to check yourself out after that killer set of bicep curls. But constantly hogging the mirror is just plain rude. Give others a chance to check their form too, please.
2. The Equipment Hogger
There’s nothing worse than someone who hogs multiple pieces of equipment at once. It’s like they think they own the place. Be considerate and stick to one piece of equipment at a time.
3. The Loud Grunter
We get it, lifting weights can be tough. But there’s no need to grunt like you’re in the middle of a war zone. Keep it down and spare us all the theatrics.
4. The Social Butterfly
The gym is not a place to catch up with friends or make new ones. Keep your conversations short and sweet so others can focus on their workouts in peace.
5. The Sweaty Mess
Nobody wants to use equipment covered in your sweat. Be courteous and wipe down machines and benches after you’re done using them.
6. The Gym Gossip
Spreading rumors and talking behind people’s backs is never cool, especially in a place where everyone is just trying to better themselves. Keep the drama at home.
7. The Selfie Queen (or King)
We get it, you want to show off your gains on social media. But constantly taking selfies and posing in front of the mirror is just plain obnoxious. Put the phone down and focus on your workout.
8. The Equipment Destroyer
Dropping weights, slamming machines, and generally being rough with equipment is a surefire way to irritate everyone around you. Respect the gym equipment and use it properly.
9. The Lurker
Do you ever feel like someone is watching your every move at the gym? That’s probably because they are. Don’t be that person lurking around, waiting to swoop in as soon as you finish using a machine.
10. The Know-It-All
We get it, you read a few fitness magazines and now you think you’re an expert. But giving unsolicited advice to other gym-goers is not only annoying, it’s also potentially dangerous. Keep your opinions to yourself unless someone specifically asks for help.
