Here at The Parent Game, we are always looking for ways to save time, money, and sanity while still getting the job done. That’s why we’ve come up with a foolproof plan to build a raised bed for your backyard garden that is not only cheap and easy but offers a plethora of benefits for your plants.
First things first, let’s talk about why raised beds are the way to go. Raised beds are great for a number of reasons, including better soil drainage, improved soil quality, and fewer weeds. Plus, they’re easier on your back and knees, making gardening a much more enjoyable experience.
Now, onto the nitty-gritty of building your raised bed. The first step is to gather your materials. You’ll need some untreated lumber, screws, a drill, and some soil. If you’re feeling particularly thrifty, you can even use reclaimed lumber or pallets to save even more money.
Next, measure out the area where you want your raised bed to go and cut your lumber to size. We recommend a depth of at least 12 inches to allow for proper root growth. Once your lumber is cut, assemble your raised bed by screwing the pieces together at the corners.
Now comes the fun part – filling your raised bed with soil. You can buy pre-made soil mix or make your own by combining equal parts garden soil, compost, and perlite or vermiculite for drainage. Fill your bed to the top, water it well, and you’re ready to plant!
